Vihiga Senator Osotsi Rejects ODM Backing Ruto, Demands Own Flagbearer.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has strongly called on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to put forward its own presidential flag bearer in the 2027 general election, firmly opposing any notion of backing President William Ruto.

In his remarks, Osotsi stressed that ODM remains a formidable political force equipped with qualified leaders ready to vie for the top seat. He invoked the memory of the late Raila Odinga, recounting how Raila once challenged the idea of ODM endorsing another candidate, reportedly asking party members: "Who told you ODM will support someone else? Who told you that in 2027 ODM won't have a candidate?"

Osotsi argued that the party must honor Raila's longstanding vision now that he is gone. He dismissed suggestions that no suitable successor exists, pointing to himself, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino as among those capable of stepping up.

He also pressed for full implementation of the 10-point agenda agreed upon between Raila Odinga and President Ruto, particularly demands for electoral justice, police accountability, compensation for families of protesters killed during demonstrations, and prosecution of officers responsible for excessive force. "The truth must be told" about past elections, he insisted.

Directly addressing ODM party leader Oburu Oginga (Raila's brother), Osotsi urged a more inclusive leadership style. "We have no problem with our leader Oburu Oginga, but he must listen to people's views," he said. Drawing a contrast with Raila's approach, Osotsi noted that Raila would always consult widely when issues arose: "When there was a problem, Baba would gather everyone and listen. If you ignore what the people are saying, you cause destruction within the party."

He further highlighted the importance of unity between the Luhya and Luo communities to bolster ODM's position ahead of 2027.

Overall, Osotsi's message pushes for ODM to maintain its independence, enforce existing agreements with the government, and embrace internal dialogue to safeguard the party's future and avoid fragmentation
