Zachariah Barasa Rejects Smart City Project In Bungoma Town.
A politician from Bungoma County, Zachariah Barasa, has strongly criticized the ongoing government project at the Bungoma Airstrip (airport), describing it as having no meaningful economic benefits whatsoever for the residents of Bungoma County.
Speaking to journalists in Bungoma, Zachariah Barasa has accused the project of being a scheme to illegally grab public land.
"Sasa tunajiuliza,kwanini wawache ekari 30 waje waanze kujenga kwa uwanja mwengine.lakini ile kitu tunajua ,kuna watu wakubwa katika serikali ,wale watu wana ushawishi mkubwa kutoka kaunti ya bungoma na wengine kutoka nje ya kaunti ya bungoma ndio wana nia ya kuchukua uwanja wa ndege"
The politician further emphasized that for the project to proceed legitimately and be completed, the people of Bungoma County must be fully involved and consulted in any decisions regarding what should be developed on that airstrip land.
"Sisi watu ya Bungoma tunasema haikubaliki na hatutakubali,wakitaka kufanya kitu kama hio wacha waite watu vile wameita leo watu wa bungoma wenyewe waamua"
