Deplorable Learning Conditions at St. Peter’s Namasa Primary School in Bumala,Bungoma.

A disturbing video shared on X by a user has gone viral, exposing the makeshift classroom at St. Peter’s Namasa Primary School in Bumula Constituency, Bungoma County.
The footage shows dozens of young pupils crammed into an open-air structure constructed from dried maize stalks and branches, with a simple whiteboard serving as the focal point for lessons. Children in colorful uniforms are seen sitting on the ground or makeshift benches, while adults, presumably teachers, navigate the rudimentary setup under clear skies. The post, captioned "This is a classroom at St. Peter’s Namasa, a government primary school in Bumula, Bungoma County," has garnered over 5,900 views, sparking outrage over the lack of proper infrastructure in a public institution.
Community members and education stakeholders have long decried the poor conditions at Namasa Primary, where inadequate facilities pose significant risks, especially during rainy seasons when learning is disrupted and pupils face health hazards from exposure.
This incident reflects broader challenges in Bumula Sub-County, where government funding has failed to keep pace with growing enrollment, leading to deteriorating classrooms, insufficient textbooks, and a lack of essential amenities like toilets and staff quarters.
Similar issues plague nearby schools, such as Kaburwet Primary in Sirisia, where parents have threatened closures over crumbling infrastructure and alleged fund mismanagement, highlighting systemic underinvestment in Bungoma's education sector.
