Major Drug Bust on Webuye-Eldoret Highway

Law enforcement officers in Kenya scored a significant victory against drug trafficking when they intercepted a passenger carrying a large quantity of cannabis along the busy Webuye-Eldoret Highway.
Acting swiftly on reliable intelligence, police from Lumakanda station established a roadblock at a key junction, leading to the discovery of about 100 kilograms of bhang hidden in sacks inside a public service vehicle. The haul, estimated to be worth around Sh3 million on the streets, highlights the persistent battle against illicit substances moving through major transport routes in the country.
The suspect, identified as Kelvin Onyango, was traveling aboard the PSV when officers conducted a thorough search that uncovered the contraband neatly packed in two green sacks. His arrest came as part of targeted efforts to disrupt smuggling networks that often exploit public transportation to move drugs across regions. Authorities praised the tip-off that enabled the timely intervention, preventing the harmful substances from reaching vulnerable communities.
Following the operation, Onyango was taken into custody at Lumakanda Police Station, where he is undergoing processing ahead of his court appearance. The seized cannabis has been secured as evidence for further investigations, with detectives likely exploring possible links to larger distribution rings operating in the area. This incident serves as a reminder of the vigilance required along key highways to curb the flow of illegal drugs.
Such successes by security agencies contribute to broader efforts aimed at safeguarding public health and safety in Kenya. As cases like this continue to surface, there are growing calls for stronger collaboration between citizens and law enforcement to tackle drug-related crimes more effectively and protect younger generations from their devastating impacts.
