Authorities in Eldoret have apprehended a suspected phone hacker following a targeted raid at his residence in Kimumu, located within Turbo Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County.

The operation, carried out by officers from Eldoret Police Station, uncovered a stash of incriminating items linked to illegal phone tampering and theft. The suspect, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, was immediately taken into custody and is being held at the local police station as inquiries continue.

During the search of the premises, law enforcement recovered 13 assorted mobile phones believed to have been stolen from various victims in the surrounding areas. Additionally, officers seized five HP laptops that were equipped with specialized flashing tools and software designed to unlock devices, bypass security measures, and potentially reprogram or alter identification details like IMEI numbers. These tools are commonly associated with efforts to make stolen phones untraceable for resale or personal use, highlighting a sophisticated approach to cyber-enabled crime.

The arrest forms part of ongoing police initiatives to curb the rising wave of mobile phone thefts and related hacking activities in the region. Investigators are now focused on tracing the rightful owners of the recovered devices, linking them to prior reports of theft, and building a comprehensive case against the suspect. Once the probe concludes, authorities plan to present formal charges in court, underscoring a firm stance against such digital and property crimes affecting local residents.
